Project Description
Project Goals:
RAPID aims to integrate the benefits of UAV services into the port environment while developing new technologies to meet the unique needs of the maritime industry.
Objectives:
RAPID targets four use cases for real-world applications by combining the latest research results and industry-requested technologies. One use case is aerial emissions monitoring within a complex port environment. As many European ports are located near densely populated areas and emission regulations are constantly tightening, monitoring compliance and detecting violations in a timely manner is of growing economic importance.
Role of the CML in RAPID:
Fraunhofer CML is represented by its Maritime Technologies and Biomimetics teams and adds expertise in the area of integrated hardware and software development as well as RAPID prototyping.
Project consortium:
University of the West Of Scotland (UWS), Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services CML, Germany; Thales Group, France; UNiversity of Dundee, Great Britain; SINTEF, Norway; REVOLVE Media, Belgium; XOCEAN Limited, Ireland; Hamburg Port Authority HPA AöR, Germany; University of Limerick, Ireland.
RAPID is led by UWS and funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 research program (No.861211) with €4.99 million over the period June 2020 - May 2023.
